Details of Animals Seen

3 x Blesbok, could not see rest of group
Another Zebra has given birth over the weekend, which brings the number of foals on the mountain to 3
7 x Hartebeest, including 2 calves
1 x Warthog (boar) taking a mud bath!
10 x Giraffes, including the 2 calves.
We also saw a Spotted Bush Snake

4 x Giraffes, the 2 calves look well

Lone Black-backed jackal

Bachelor Impala group, sleeping under the Acacia's
3 young Black-backed jackals
Saw at least 20 chameleons

Species Name: Saw a herd of Hartebeest,only saw 1 calf but confident that the rest is around / Alcelaphus buselaphus
: Impala Creche split, all seem fine / Aepyceros melampus
: Main and bachelor group mixed up, some of the adults have split up and formed smaller groups around
the area. / Aepyceros melampus
: Saw 8 of the Giraffes, 2 calf's and moms not with the group, but they were spotted yesterday and looks well

: Lone Blesbok with the Impala at lands. / Damaliscus dorcas

Very windy day, cloudy and also some rain
Not a lot of animals were seen because of weather


27/03/2007 MAMMALS

Species Name: Saw 8 Giraffes again, they moved from the small valley on the left of the house, mountain side,
to the fence area near the main gate. Still did not see the 2 cows and 2 calf's, but they should be close to
the rest of the herd. / Giraffa camelopardalis
: Saw the same herd of Hartebeest near the Giraffes at the normal grazing spot. / Alcelaphus buselaphus
: Some Zebra's near the Hartebeest / Equus burchelli
: 2 x Warthogs (Sow) / Phacochoerus africanus
: Grey Duiker (ewe) with a lamb at the dam near the foot of the mountain / Sylvicapra grimmia

Again a cloudy day, but no wind.

Species Name: saw 5 Mountain Reedbucks at the back of the mountain / Redunca fulvorufula
: 1 Duiker in the same area / Sylvicapra grimmia
: 1 x Kudu bull and 3 cows with a young calf, same area / Tragelaphus Strepsiceros

Species Name: 1 x Warthog taking a rest at the side of the road (young male) / Phacochoerus africanus
: Giraffe cow spotted with the 2 calf's, look healthy / Giraffa camelopardalis
: a porcupine was caught and eaten by a predator / Hystrix africaeaustralis

Species Name: Saw 2 giraffe cows and the calf's this afternoon, all seem fine / Giraffa camelopardalis
: 3 more giraffes were spotted near the dam at the foot of the mountain, at about the same time / Giraffa camelopardalis
: 1 scrub hare / Lepus saxatilis
: 5 x Zebra also near the dam / Equus burchelli
: 1 Hartebeest (male) / Alcelaphus buselaphus
: 1 x slender mongoose (red) / Herpestes sanguinea

Species Name: Saw 2 bulls and 2 cows with the 2 calf's this morning (Giraffes) / Giraffa camelopardalis
new giraffe calf is female and both calf's look healthy
: Both the main and bachelor group were away from the fields, spent the day near the ponds / Aepyceros melampus
: saw a Narrow-headed golden mole / Amblysomus

NIGHT DRIVE MAMMALS

Species Name: 6 Grey duikers in fields closest to house / Sylvicapra grimmia
: 2 porcupines (1 female and a youngster) / Hystrix africaeaustralis
: 3 x Waterbuck at fields with impala (1 x male, 2 x female) / Kobus ellipsiprymnus
: 1 x Mountain Reedbuck ram near duikers / Redunca fulvorufula
: 4 Black-backed Jackals at fields by Impala / Aepyceros melampus
: Main and Bachelor Impala groups back in the fields / Aepyceros melampus
